Some of my training grounds are the  local park - Regent's Park where I run past a family of giraffes (in the london zoo)  http://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/regents_park/
Hamsptead heath: http://www.hampsteadheath.net/ great for cross country runs and open water swimming in its ponds. one of th highlights of the year is the "duathlon" where you run to each pond and swim a lap and finish at the race track for some hot tea. another fun thing is the christmas day swim at the ladies pond. BRrrrr!
